Anniversary Photos at Fragrance Lake in Bellingham
R & D chose Fragrance Lake for their anniversary session because it was one of the few hikes off Chuckanut Drive they had not yet done since moving to Bellingham a few months prior. It was a perfect, sunny afternoon and we only saw a few other people the whole time we were hiking! If you’re looking for the perfect place for a half-day adventure extremely close to Bellingham, you should add this hike to your list. You can spend as much time as you’d like at the lake itself—multiple viewpoints and a .6-mile trail circumnavigating the lake itself give visitors lots of space to enjoy the area. Then, when you return to the trailhead, drive the 10 minutes back into town to check out one of Bellingham’s award-winning breweries or restaurants.
Close access to nature is what I love most about this city. Bellingham is truly unique, with the ability to get out into the mountains, the forests, the islands, or the ocean all within a day. It’s the perfect place to visit for a nature lover, and that makes it the perfect destination for folks looking for easy access to nature for celebrations. I’d be happy to help you find your perfect spot for an adventurous couples photo session like the one pictured here!
Fragrance Lake is a 5.5-mile roundtrip hike from the trailhead in Larrabee State Park. The hike has a “moderate” rating, with 950 feet of elevation gain and a generally clear but sometimes slippery trail.
Because the lake is so deep in the forest, sunlight is a precious resource out here to seriously consider. Even on a blue-sky summer day, expect the sun to “set” at the lake about 2 hours before the listed sunset time.
