Oregon Waterfall Engagement Couples Session at Latourell Falls near Portland, Oregon. Wild Coast Photography is a Pacific Northwest Elopement Photographer.

This couples session was an adventure to one of the most popular waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. A quick drive from Portland, Oregon - The Gorge is home to one of the largest collection of easily accessible waterfalls in the world. Latourell Falls was flowing heavily during this winter adventure session, and I wish I could show you just how powerful it felt to be standing beside it!

The Columbia River Gorge has the Largest Collection of Waterfalls in North America

The drive from Portland to The Dalles, along Highway 86, has 26 roadside waterfall stops. Some require a bit of a hike, some can be seen from the car, and all are worth getting as close to as safely possible. Latourell Falls is the second tallest waterfall in The Gorge, only shorter than the well-known Multnomah Falls. The base can be accessed by a short paved trail, or there is an overlook from the parking lot.

Latourell Falls is 249 feet tall.

Grace could hardly contain her excitement when we met at the Latourell Falls parking lot. She grew up in Portland and was returning to show Isaac many of her old favorite spots. His eyes lit up when we hiked around the corner and he saw the waterfall for the first time. “Stuff like this just doesn’t exist where I live,” he said.

I’ll be the first to admit, being surrounded by waterfalls and lush forests and the beauty of the PNW can become too common. I wouldn’t ever say I get tired of it, but sometimes I forget to appreciate how good we have it here. However, when I have the opportunity to witness someone else see these spaces for the first time - all the excitement comes rushing back! I LOVE acting as tour guide to the forests and mountains of my home. There is an extra level of beauty to a place when I get to share it with other people.

It was truly a pleasure to explore The Gorge with Grace and Isaac on this winter morning. The air was a bit chilly, but their excitement to be there kept us all smiling, laughing, and dancing to keep warm! I wish so much happiness for these two beautiful humans!
