Adventurous Elopement Ceremony on the Oregon Coast
R got ready with Buchanan Beauty at their home studio – I have to commend them on the incredible work because R’s hair & makeup stayed in place throughout the entire day of hiking, snacking, getting sprayed by a rogue bottle of champagne (will explain later) & standing on a cliffside overlooking a very wild churning sea below. T put his suit on & fixed his hair on his own using nothing but the sideview mirror on my Subaru. We all met at Hug Point so these two could have a first look in the forest & hike around before heading down to the beach to eat some vegan pastries from Doe Donuts.
You Can Still Have a First Look When You Elope – They Did!
Their first look was so sweet! It occurred at the Hug Point Picnic Area. Afterward we wandered around the woods, exploring the insane overlooks from the cliffsides above the beach. R’s bridal portraits are some of my favorite I’ve ever taken – she was absolutely stunning in her untraditional black dress, gold Mountainside Made earrings, & pearl crown. The sustainable bouquet – made from paper & wooden flowers – was the perfect addition & help so well as we explored for hours! I love all the intentional details that get added into elopement planning – one of my favorite details was the botanically died ribbon that R tied around the stems of her flowers. Every time a little bit of wind came up, the ribbons danced.
After exploring around the forest, we all headed down to the beach – Hug Point is such a unique location because there are waterfalls streaming right into the ocean, black rock cliffs, and a long sandy beach. It’s the best of the Pacific Northwest without quite so many rocks!
We drove down the coast only about 15 minutes to access a beautiful overlook where R & T would share their vows & have a private ceremony. It was February, so the wind was blowing with a little bit of chill – but the exchange was that we had the place completely to ourselves! The hike down from the parking area was extremely overgrown, but then opened up into the most magnificent small path through the grasses down to my favorite ceremony location in the PNW.
R & T held each other & told stories that I couldn’t hear from a distance with the roar of waves crashing below. We stayed here until the sun set – they popped champagne & celebrated an epic day! I can’t wait to come back & explore this place some time when it’s warmer out – it would be the PERFECT location to elope in the late summer when the flowers are blooming & the trail to the overlook is less muddy. I have so much respect for couples who plan winter weddings & roll with the punches.

Tips for a successful (non-explosive) champagne pop –
Remove the cork / top before shaking the bottle
Place your thumb over the opening
Shake away from faces
Lift your thumb & point spray downwind
