Oahu Commitment Ceremony Elopement
R & M’s elopement in Oahu was such a fun experience! I was only in Hawaii for about 48 hours, but I arrived early enough to scout their chosen location the day before. Their close friend lived in Oahu and would be officiating their ceremony, so these two had a little insight into the location but I wanted to make sure 100% that on this day there wouldn’t be any surprises! Of course, my scouting mission didn’t go exactly as planned…
The day before this elopement it rained, and the trail we planned to hike (like many footpaths through the mountains in Hawaii) turns into more of a water slide than a trail in a downpour. By the time I was done scouting, I was quite literally covered in mud! Which naturally made me nervous since there was a small chance of rain the next day. However, R & M were not at all concerned by my report—instead, they forged ahead and got lucky to experience PERFECT weather!
We met up in the late morning at a beach across from the trailhead. There, R & M read letters from loved ones. They laughed, and cried, reading the heartfelt support from those who weren’t present. After exploring the beach for a while, we packed up and began hiking. The trail was relatively short, and there were stops along the way to our destination with stunning views of the bay below. When we reached the spot on the hike where they wanted to speak vows to each other, a light breeze had picked up but the weather remained beautiful. Barefoot and smiling, R & M spoke words of intention over their relationship punctuated by laughter—these two had a lot of fun eloping!
The ceremony finished, clouds were rolling in a bit thicker and we had just enough time to head back down the trail back to the beach. There, hanging from the branches of a tree over the water, R & M clambered onto a makeshift swing. We ended the day a few yards farther down the beach watching the sun set over the hills…and four hours later I was on a plane headed home! This time in Hawaii was short, but sweet, and I can’t wait to go back! Congrats to R & M on their fun, beautiful, perfectly-them elopement in paradise!
